A scooter can work for getting around Kralendijk and nearby areas, but it provides far less protection from the sun and weather and isn't practical for carrying substantial dive or snorkeling equipment.
For a full week of exploring Bonaire, I'd generally prioritize a car.
Best rental vehicle for snorkeling in Bonaire
If snorkeling is a major reason you're visiting, your rental vehicle becomes part of the experience.
Bonaire has numerous snorkeling sites that you can explore independently.
That means you can load your equipment into the car, drive along the coast and stop at different sites depending on conditions.
A regular car can work perfectly well for many snorkeling itineraries.
You don't necessarily need a pickup just because you're getting into the water.
Best rental vehicle for diving in Bonaire
This is where a pickup becomes much more attractive.
Shore divers regularly transport:
- tanks
- BCDs
- wetsuits
- fins
- weights
- masks
- other wet equipment
Being able to keep that equipment separate from the passenger area is useful when you're doing several dives over multiple days.

If Washington Slagbaai National Park is part of your itinerary, check the current vehicle requirements before booking your rental car.
