Bonaire's accommodation market looks nothing like Aruba's. There are no large all inclusive beach mega-resorts, no high rise hotel strips and no casino hotels dominating the waterfront. What Bonaire has instead is a range of smaller dive-focused resorts, boutique hotels, apartment complexes and guesthouses - most clustered around Kralendijk on the west coast, some in the quieter Belnem area to the south and one genuinely unique option at Sorobon on the east coast for kitesurfers and windsurfers.
Choosing where to stay in Bonaire is a different decision from choosing a resort in Aruba. The questions that matter most are: does the property have dive facilities on site, is there tank storage and air fills available, does it have a kitchen so you can self-cater, and how far is it from the dive sites you plan to visit most.

Bonaire has one true all inclusive option. If you want the all-in-one resort model, read our dedicated guide first, then compare with the hotels on this page.
Read the Bonaire all inclusive guideThe capital and main town. Most restaurants, supermarkets, dive shops and the waterfront are all here. Staying in Kralendijk means walking distance to the Divi Flamingo's Bari Reef - one of the most accessible shore dive and snorkel sites on the island - and easy access to the harbor for Klein Bonaire water taxis. Best for first-time visitors who want convenience and access to town amenities.
The residential and resort area immediately south of Kralendijk along the coast. Quieter than town, most properties here have direct or very easy water access and several of the island's highest rated boutique hotels are located here. A short drive or bike ride to Kralendijk. Best for couples, divers who want a quieter base and travelers who prefer boutique over resort.
North of Kralendijk toward the airport. Quieter, fewer amenities within walking distance. Some well-regarded dive resorts here with good access to the northern west coast dive sites. Best for divers focused on the northern sites.
Close to the airport. Convenient for arrival and departure, with some good options. Best for short stays or cruise visitors.
The east coast - completely different character from the west. Protected bay, world class kitesurfing and windsurfing conditions, calm shallow water. Very limited accommodation options but ideal for wind sport travelers. Approximately 20 minutes from Kralendijk.

Tank storage and air fills on site matter more than pool size or restaurant quality. Chogogo, Habitat, Corallium and Divi Flamingo all have established dive operations. Proximity to your planned dive sites matters - northern sites suit Hato-based properties, southern and central sites suit Kralendijk and Belnem.
Focus on beach access, pool quality and location relative to Kralendijk's restaurants and waterfront. Ocean Breeze at $90 is the strongest value option. Delfins Beach Resort Hilton is the most reliable branded option.
Bellafonte, Harbour Village Beach Club and Belnem House are the standout boutique options. Grand Windsock is strong for private pool villas.
Sorobon Luxury Beach Resort is the only practical east coast base. Accept the lower review score for the unmatched location.

Chogogo Dive & Beach Resort has the strongest combination of dive facilities, review score and review volume. Habitat Bonaire and Corallium are also well regarded by the diving community.
Kralendijk gives walking access to restaurants, supermarkets and the waterfront. Belnem is quieter with some of the island's highest rated boutique properties and generally better direct water access. Both require a car for most dive sites.
As early as possible for peak season December through April - Bonaire is a small island with limited inventory and good properties sell out months in advance. May through November has more availability and significantly lower prices.
Ocean Breeze at $90/night with a 9.2 score is the strongest budget option in this guide. Local guesthouses not listed here start around $50-60/night - search Expedia or Booking.com for the full range.
Bonaire hotels are not cheap at the baseline, but value improves when you match your stay to your travel style. Book early, focus on area fit over star class, and compare rates with included perks before deciding.
