Playa Piskadó — also called Playa Grandi — is the best-known place to snorkel with sea turtles in Curaçao. It is a small working fishermen's beach near Westpunt, not a quiet reef or polished resort beach.

Turtles are regularly seen in the shallow water here, which is why Playa Piskadó appears on so many west-coast tours. The trade-off is crowds: fishing boats, independent snorkelers and tour groups can all share a relatively small area.

Where is Playa Piskadó?

Playa Piskadó is on Curaçao's northwest coast near Westpunt. You may also see it called Playa Grandi or informally Turtle Beach.

It is considerably farther from Willemstad than beaches such as Mambo Beach or Blue Bay, which is why it makes sense to combine the drive with other west-coast stops.

A simple independent beach day could be:

What Playa Piskadó is actually like

This is a small fishermen's beach on the northwest coast. Nets, boats and a short stretch of sand sit next to water that stays relatively shallow close in. That is useful to know before you picture an empty bay.

Tour groups can make the water considerably busier during the day. Driving yourself gives you the advantage of arriving earlier or waiting for a crowded group to leave.

It is worth a short swim if turtles are on your list. It is a poor choice if you want a quiet reef or a full lounge day.
