One of the easiest places to combine a proper beach day with snorkeling. The reef is accessible from shore, and the beach has enough facilities to stay for several hours rather than treating it as a quick snorkeling stop.
Best for: An easy snorkeling beach with facilities
A small cove enclosed by rocky sides. Swim out along the edges rather than staying only over the sandy center.
It is a better snorkeling stop than a beach for travelers looking for lots of facilities.
Best for: A smaller west-coast cove and shore snorkeling
Cas Abao combines clear water, reef access and considerably more beach infrastructure than many of the smaller Bandabou coves.
Best for: Snorkeling as part of a full beach day
The main attraction is the shallow wreck off Curaçao’s southeast coast. You can snorkel here independently, so you do not need to book a tour simply to see the Tugboat.
Guided options make more sense if you want equipment, underwater propulsion such as a Seabob, or someone showing you the wreck and nearby reef.

Known primarily for sea turtles rather than coral reef snorkeling. Fishing activity attracts turtles to the area, which also means this is a busier and less natural-feeling snorkeling experience than a quiet west-coast reef.

Best for: The possibility of seeing turtles
Smaller and simpler than neighboring Grote Knip. Snorkel along the rocky sides of the cove rather than expecting an extensive reef directly across the sandy middle.
Best for: Combining Knip sightseeing with a short snorkel
A relatively simple west-coast cove without the facilities of Cas Abao or Porto Mari. Bring what you need and snorkel around the rocky edges.
Best for: A quieter stop on a west-coast beach day
For many travelers, shore snorkeling is enough. Curaçao has unusually good access to reefs and coves directly from land, so renting a car can give you more freedom than booking a full-day snorkeling excursion.
For most confident swimmers with a rental car, we would start with shore snorkeling. Paying for a tour makes more sense when it solves a transport, equipment or access problem rather than simply putting you in the same water with a guide.

Porto Mari is the easiest full beach-plus-reef day. Playa Lagun is the stronger small-cove snorkel. Tugboat Beach is the wreck. Playa Piskadó is for turtles, not coral. Klein Curaçao is a different, longer boat day.
